I think it just depends on what kind of teacher you work best with.
Lucien is very, very positive, and gives a lot of criticism in... nice? ways? I know a lot of people who don't care for this simply because they are the kind of actors that prefer to have someone get up in their face and tell them every single thing that they are doing wrong in a more blunt fashion. I've never taken a class with Lucien, but I go to him for one on one help with monologues all the time, and I ALWAYS leave having more perspective (not to mention feeling a lot better) about what it is that I am trying to do. Also, I feel like Lucien is really film geared, so if that's what you're wanting to do than he is probably the one to go with.
From my experiences with Stephen: I feel like he is the type of professor that tries to get to know his students and their background really well before he attempts to help them. I went in to ask him to sign a paper for me and ended up having a 45 minute chat about my life and goals. He even sent a follow up email with a bunch of opportunities attached that we had discussed in our one meeting. I really liked this, because it shows that he takes time for everyone, and really cares. However, I've never had him as an instructor, so that's really all that I can tell you.
i took it with steve and got a lot out of it. personally, i feel like i learn more from him b/c of what julia said, he invests time to get to know you so that he can better help you.
