Did Erin look familiar to anyone?

I just realized that our guest professor Erin Philips...was the actress who played Alice Neel in Portrait! Damn tattoos threw me off.

It came to me while I revised my long play and tried to picture this elderly Jewish lady who's a bit of an important character in it. I thought of Alice Neel's cold, arrogant sarcasm, and how it would fit my character real well. The face (and the look) lingered on my mind for a while, then I struck me: I checked the program for Portrait, and there it was.

She'll be at the top of my list if I ever get to put this thing together for the stage. Okay, maybe after Liz Sheridan (Seinfeld's mother in the series).

Maybe.

  1. Yeah! I totally realized who she was in the middle of her lecture. I whispered to Chibbi: "I know who she is! It's Alice!" The tattoos actually helped me figure out who she was. That and her voice. I saw the dress rehearsal for "Portrait" and there was some discussion about her costumes and whether or not they sufficiently covered her tats.

  2. Hahahahahaha, shoot. I didn't even know it was her until I read this! I only associated her with 'Tides of Aberdeen,' which, if anyone got to see, was REALLY good.
    :D

  3. Damn. Now I wish I had watched it. This festival ought to last two weeks, at least.
