...Is the idea that, as you move forward through a play, there are many options available in terms of where the plot may go next -- but WHEN YOU LOOK BACKWARD AT A PLOT FROM THE END OF THE PLAY, you see that each moment had to occur the way it did in order for the story to reach its inevitable end.
